Summary:Telecommunications companies use geographic information systems (GIS) to plan, build, and maintain their networks. Techniques for merging spatial data from different sources into an integrated system are included, and the case studies profiled present innovative techniques for such daunting tasks as managing outside plant engineering processes. Ways in which GIS can be used to integrate market analysis, network design and operations, and mapping into the same environment are included, as are strategies for improving the quality of information systems by combining up-to-date coverage data with demographics, trouble tickets, call history, and revenues.
