Search Engines - Simple/Advanced
KeyWord Search
Atop each of our pages is our Search. It is the "gateway" into our inventory and one of the most used features of the nerdbooks.com site. Into this box you may enter keywords found in the title, author, or publisher fields for any given book. You may also enter into this box the 10 or 13-digit ISBN (International Standard Book Number). In this latter instance, we know you want a particular book, and if we've ever had this title in our system, only that book will be displayed. Please bear in mind that we hand-enter our titles upon receiving them from publishers. As such, if a book has not-yet-been printed, or if we have never had it in our inventory, it will not be displayed as it's not in our database. If the "Buy Now" button is "grayed out", this means that it is disabled because we are temporarily out of stock, or the book is out of print.
Advanced Search
Using the Advanced Search page, you can search for books using a variety of advanced options. Please keep in mind that as advanced searches are more specific, it may take a little bit longer for the database to return a list of matches.
Search Fields
Title, Author, and Publisher search fields are available, allowing you to search on different combinations for books. For example, you could search for all books that have "PHP" in their title, that are from the publisher "Wrox". In addition, you may search for a book by ISBN. In this instance, we know you want a particular book, and if we've ever had this title in our system/store, it will show. If the "Buy Now" button is grayed out, this means that it is disabled because we are temporarily out of stock, or the book is out of print.
Exact Match
Selecting this option on any of the search fields will show results with only an exact match. For example, searching for books on "C" will only match book titles relative to "C", not "C++", "CCNA", or "Black Book".
Partial Match
Selecting this option on any of the search fields will show results with both partial and exact matches. For example, searching for books on ?SQL? will match all book titles containing the phrase "SQL", i.e., "PostgreSQL", "SQL92", "MySQL", etc.
Tips
When searching our site, try to use short and specific search words.
Make sure your search words are not too general, i.e., "Linux" will return hundreds of books, while "Debian GNU/Linux" will return a much shorter list.
If you have the ISBN, use it instead!
Use of the advanced search feature is great for browsing Title/Publisher matches, i.e., try "PHP" and "Wrox".
